Sitka Transportation

Sitka, Alaska is comprised of three islands but don’t fret about getting around the area’s sites and attractions. Transportation is more convenient than you might think when navigating between and on the islands.

Taxi Cabs

A cab from our Alaska Bed & Breakfast to the business district and attractions is $6.00 (the minimum rate last season). Alaska Ocean View is located within this “downtown minimum-cab-rate-zone.” Taxi fare from the airport is approximately $9 for the 1st person and fifty cents to a dollar for each additional person. Guests can arrange taxi service by calling 747-5001, 738-8294 or 747-8888.

Rental Cars

An important bit of Sitka travel information, guests should note that the local rental car agencies are located at the airport. If that won’t fit into your schedule then you can ask Avis rental car (907 966-2404) to have a car waiting for you at the ferry terminal for a fee. They even deliver a car to you at the bed and breakfast. Not only do they provide this exceptional service for free, they also offer our guests a discount.

Bike Rentals

Rent comfortable upright seating bikes by the day or by the week. There are also mountain bikes for the more adventurous.

Airport & Ferry Shuttles

Sitka Tours airport and ferry shuttle buses bring guests right to our door and return guests to the ferry or the airport for a nominal fee of $6.00.  You can save a few dollars by purchasing a round-trip ticket for $10.00. During peak season, the airport shuttle bus is parked outside the baggage claim area. Tickets are interchangeable and honored by both the ferry and airport shuttles making getting around affordable and easy. Guests should be aware that the airport shuttle may not meet the last 10:50 p.m. flight of the day. The Alaska Marine Highway provides all the ferry information you may need. Visit their website or reach them at 970 747-8737 locally and 800 642-0066 nationwide.

Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System

Traveling by ferry to Sitka is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful along the scenic Inside Passage. You can access the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System at any town in Southeast Alaska but the main ports that are also tied to the road system are Bellingham, Washington, Prince Rupert, BC Canada, Haines, Alaska, and to a lesser degree, Skagway and Hyder. Small businesses have been set up to garage your vehicle if you decide you do not want the expense of having it travel on the ferry with you. Most of the ferries have staterooms, and dining facilities as well as car decks.
